Connections - I'm 35,000 feet in the air

I wasn't going to blog, and last night it was crazy with packing... however I am 35,000 feet in the air and able to connect to the internet through their wifi... I mean how crazy is this!

You would think that I should be used to packing, but no... it still took me 2 hours! But then again I am away for a while now, which is great fun. Thankfully I left Kev in charge of Charlie's stuff, but when I told Jonesy she laughed and said that he would arrive with no clean undies... ha ha ha

So yes I am here flying high in the sky and it's crazy how I am able to communicate with the world below. Flying for me used to be my time to switch off and whilst I love working... and I mean LOVE there are times that you want to switch off.  But it's a novelty at the moment so you have to give it a go don't you.

It's made me think about how easy the world is, and how much we rely on technology. What happened to the days where we picked up the phone or wrote letters. We no longer have 'penpals' we connect with people we don't know through forums and chat rooms, people we have never met before become close friends which is great. And I for one know how incredibly beautiful it can be as I have created the 'extended family' members area and I have seen how friendships blossom.

Of course like any friendships there are upsets but they get quickly resolved, but things can be taken the wrong way when we are writing. People can't hear the tone of your voice to see how you feeling.

It's times like that where picking up the phone, and talking to people can help. I mean we have skype and video chats now so the world is certainly becoming a smaller place, but what I used to love was picking up the mail and seeing a letter. I would rip it open and read it, and re-read it. I knew it had come from someone and they had spent personal time over it. I could also feel the energy through the letter, which was an added bonus for me...

But technology has made things easier and it's incredible how fast the world is becoming and how connected we are to each other.

These are just my thoughts for the day really.

Anyway, turbulance has hit and I am about to sit back and relax and read my Harry Potter book for the umpteenth time!

hugs and love everyone

Lisa xx

Hey there Lisa... way up there in the clouds! Yikes... sorry when I think about flying my heart skips an extra beat or two or three or lots...LOL

Funny I usually read your blogs in the morning and I just had a moment to read from work this afternoon and here you are blogging from the sky. Impeccable timing I would say...

Humm... technology does work to my benefit as I make good money but sometimes I do miss the horse and carriage days...LOL (not that old to be talking about horse and carriage here... LOL) Seriously, I do know what you mean. It was special to get a written letter in the mail or receive a phone call from a friend. Now I find it all so annoying and overwhelming at the same time.

So I am glad I stopped in to wish you and Janey a great weekend. Again, Happy Birthday and don't you gals do anything I wouldn't do which is a very short list...LOL. I am so full of it and talk a better a good story...LOL Seriously, have a wonderful stay in NYC.

Big Birthday Hugs to you,
DS

Thanks for blogging today...like the other girl that commented i usually check ur blogs in the morning and when i did check thisafternoon it was the same one from yesterday....but then i decided to recheck because i had a feeling that u would blog....and u did!!! im starting to trust my "feelings" its new to me because when i do get feelings i usually dismey them with logic....but im trying to learn to trust my feelings and be open minded...im having fun with it. expiramenting...because its new to me.
anyways i've gotten strayed from what i wanted to say...that is i wanted to thank u for blogging....a lot of people including myself look foward to reading ur blogs everyday...they arent just words...u are helping us. I remember a few days ago i was mad and bumed out because i am living in italy with my husband and his family is here (because they are italian) my family in in the USA anyways my birthday passed a couple weeks ago and no cake no happy birthday song...not even a happy birthday....and well i've been having a hard time understanding my husbands family lastley and i remember being in my car driving and feeling bummed and all the sudden i remembered a blog u wrote about when u were down and out and u learned that u have to depend on yourself not others...and well ur words and the comfort that ur words gave me really helped lift my spirits. Thanks Lisa. Un Bacio- Merci

Hello Lisa,

I don't know how you do it, to be able to do all these things in the plane, I am so terrified in a plane I can't do anything else but closing my eyes and if I can, sleep.. and generally I feel so nauseous but anyway great you can do it so you can write to us...
I also regret the letters time but from time to time I write to some old friends this way.
Have a great flight !

Gros bisous,

Lise

Hi LIsa,

Safe travels!

Here's an interesting peak into the (very) near future of how technology will continue to bring us together. Check this out: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/projectnatal/

As amazing as it is, I have to agree how nice a good, heartfelt letter or card is to receive!

Much success on this trip!

Hi there!

What a wonderful blog Lisa, so beautifully written. Maybe as the world gets smaller, our hearts get bigger with more and more people we get connected with?

Much love,

Love your new site Kids with Gifts. I was one of those kids after my NDE at the age of 10. I congratulate you on a great site to educate gifted children who do not know how to explain what they see. Superb idea.
Michael.

Hi Lisa,
Hope your weather up there outside your plane isn't as bumpy as it is here in the south west of West Australia this morning. Thunder, lightening, heavy rain, and a pitch black sky.
I love this new technology especially now I have some wonderful email friends who I've met through your site. I still write letters, but, use my printer as it's so much faster, and, easier to read and I can write heaps more!!!!
Enjoy your trip. Happy birthday.
luv u

It's so funny you're reading Harry Potter. I started some months ago to re-read the first books and continue to read the saga. I'm currently at the end of Harry Potter & The Half-blood Prince (which kinda upset me) ! I'm so happy to be totally ignorant oh what happens ;)

I love so much handwriting letters and receive some. But it's getting lost :(

Happy bday Lisa!

You must be so excited up there on your way to your birthday celebrations. Mind you, turbulence and relaxing do not go hand in hand when I'm flying!!!!!! If you notice any claw marks on the arms of the plane's seat - that was me!!!!! lol

Have a great time!
Cheers!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,DEAR LISA!
I love reading Harry Potter!! When I'd get a Potter book, I'd spend every free moment reading it untill I'd finish. They are like stepping into another world. I Love "excaping" into Harry Potter. Haven't been able to get the last couple books, yet. But can't wait to read them.
Have a magical weekend! See you Wednesday!
Luv, Kim

I agree Lisa! I love technology myself but, there is something pretty awesome about a good old fashioned hand written letter! And when I do find one in my mail box, I read and re-read them and save them as well!
