Ayers Rock!

Here we are on the next leg of the trip. Ayers Rock or otherwise known as Uluru. It's a huge rock that stands all alone in the middle of no where and is actually extremely sacred. You can climb the rock but the aboriganies don't like you too because it's sacred but I found out today that they can't stop you because it's a tourist attraction and that it would stop all the tourist trade if they stopped allowing people to climb it. It's a shame really!

Sorry no photos as we are in the middle if no where and the Internet connection is ridiculously expensive so I'm emailing my blogs in but I will load my pictures up when I get back to civilization in a few days. So these blogs may only be very short.

We headed to Ayers Rock via helicopter! Yes we decided to take the trip and flew over the Olgas and also the rock. The Olgas are for men only and as a woman you are not allowed to go into certain areas and evern the park rangers who are female are not allowed to go in. They can go on the perimeter but not in the Olgas themselves!!!

It was an amazing experience and tomorrow we are heading on a 3hour hike around the base of the rock.

Ok time for me to hit the sack I have 2 boys asleep and I'm not going to be far behind!!!

Lots of love from a hot desert rock

Wow, what an experience you are having there! I don't envy you the heat (my family calls me The Penguin), but hopefully it is a dry heat, at least. LIke someone else said, bring tons of water with you on the hike, it sounds quite exhausting.

Looking forward to pictures!

Hello Lisa,

I just got around to reading yesterday's blog about Jade Goody. I've been following her story for several months as I'm an avid online reader of The Daily Mail. Such a simple girl.....not much of an education or good upbringing....the type of person I hold most dear to my heart. God bless her family at this time.

A three hour hike? wow....that'll do a body good !

Hi Lisa,
Don't forget the sunscreen and water! Hehehe I'm always a mom!

Thanks for blogging for us! I'm enjoying your vacation soooo much!
I will be very interested in hearing your experiences around Ayers Rock - Uluru.
I didn't know about The Olgas - more research for me to do online.
Thanks!

Hi Lisa

I was thrilled at the chance to say hello to you and your family in Sydney
I hope that you enjoyed the cruise around our wonderful Harbour.
We had already been earlier celebrating my inlaws 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Glad to hear that you are all enjoying Australia.

Hi Lisa Kev and Charlie, Sounds like you're having a wonderful time.
Have fun and dont forget the sunscreen!
We love you Lisa!

I forgot to ask Charlie: is it true the toilet water flushes backwards?
I'm sorry Lisa, i have always wanted to know if it is true.
It would be something my son who is now 20, would have noticed.

Hi Lis'
I can't believe they have internet out there now. Amazing. For the non-Aussies reading this, uluru is really in the middle of absolutely nowhere. The Australian desert is more remote than most people in the first world can really understand. But consider this: in 1984, an aboriginal tribe walked out of the desert and met white people for the first time. 1984! And yes the water goes down the drain the other way in the southern hemisphere.

Having been there myself...I can truly feel your excitement and wonder...enjoy every moment...

Hi Lisa & others,
I'm looking fwd to reading what you have to say after your 3 hour trek at the Rock (hope you remembered that water!) Most people would assume the rock is fairly smooth all the way down to the ground. Well, no, it's actually full of lots of interesting caves, little waterfalls, very old cave paintings (by the aboriginals) & lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Charlie will love it! It's about 9kms around the entire base (not sure what that is in miles) and really is stuck out in the middle of nowhere! Pascale (Quebec), if would like to know more about it - look up the website www.ayresrockresort.com.au - it also has a lot of info about the Olgas. The Ayres Rock Resort is made up of 5 hotels and is probably now the closest you can stay to the Rock. You used to be able to camp around the Rock, but that was banned a few years ago (at Aboriginals request). Uluru is considered a sacred site to the Aboriginals and Lisa, don't be tempted to take a piece home with you, as doing that is supposed to bring you years of bad luck! Tell us if you went to the Aboriginal Cultural Center nearby and what you thought of it. The one thing i noticed about it was that there were no aboriginals there!!! Hmm, strange!
I'm sure you're having a fantastic time and collecting lots of wonderful memories to take back home. What a wonderful experience for Charlie at his age! Enjoy!

Hiya Lisa, I've not so long ago done the same tour as you are now, and it does take 3 hours, but it is also an amasing experience, Try and find out about the Aboriginal Children Stories about the rock, it will make the trip more fasinating. I hope you are having a great time, just watching your programme in Thailand and i think it's amasing, Wolud love for you to be able to do a reading for me, not sure how practical that is as you are clearly a very busy person, thank you anyway for a great TV show

Very happy to hear that you are having a wonderful time in Australia, Charlie is very fortunate to have seen Ayers Rock, I am Australian born & have never had the chance to go there myself. Hope you enjoy the desert experience. Hope you'll be coming back to Australia again, there is so much to see.
Still counting down days until Sydney!!!!!

Australia is a warm interesting place, isn't it?
Hope you all continue to have a fun trip? True what you say about our health Lisa..It's priceless..No money in the world can save us sometimes..
Having said that, i'll be coming to the Melbounre 30th show..I have the flu and feel really horrible..I would be devastated if i were too sick to come on Monday..So, when you do your healing, would you mind thinking of me too? I would like to be better so i don't miss seeing you..I've waited sooooo long for this day..
Take care, have fun and please continue to enjoy every second you have here..

Hi Lisa!
Thanks for going to the trouble of writing on the blog! I am curious about why women aren't allowed in certain areas of the Olgas! Is it a religious thing? Is that an aboriginal law? How nice for them! : - (
" Lisa of the Outback!!" Have fun, stay cool, and use sun screen!!!! Sounds like you are experiencing so many amazing wonders!! It is a trip of a lifetime!! Great!
Enjoy ever minute!!
Take care!
Love and hugs,
Cheryl
