Past Live fear... conquered!

Thanks for all the well wishes for my Nan, I told her about them and she was very happy, she is coming home on Monday and Mom and Dad are preparing the house for her arrival. They have to move beds around and also arrange for nurses to come in, so they have a weekend and a half ahead of them! According to my dad, Nan is in denial which I know is normal and it's something I went through but thank you for your thoughts!

Well another day in paradise! Everyone here is so lovely and friendly except for one person who didn't do the Australians any justice. I simply asked the way to a ferry and he started to have a go at me... I simply asked a question, so he got a mouth full back! No point dwelling on it, because what happened next was perfect. We were trying to get on a ferry and we just asked a day cruise attendant where to go, and he told us to hop on the boat and they would take us... what a great guy!

So we finally got to where we needed to go and we took another ferry to Manly Beach.

OMG what a place. So much better than Bondi. I love Bondi, but Manly was great.

Yes it was a little crowded which is to be expected when it's a beautiful day in Sydney. I had a major breakthrough, I bought a rash vest, and I had every intention to go enjoy playing in the sea with my little boy. In a past life, I was thrown overboard off a ship as a young boy, called Jimmy. I was a stow away, and I was returning home with my 'fortune'. I had stolen a china tea cup and silver spoon to take home to my mom. for as long as I can remember I have always had a fear of the sea, and insisted on learning to swim at a young age. Swimming then became my life and I swam competitively for a long time.

So today, even Kev went it in (again he is not a lover of the sea, not for any reason except that it's salty and he doesn't like beaches because you get sand everywhere). We all went in as a family and played in the waves, I went in more than my thighs today, I actually body surfed the waves!!! Whoohoo. Hair got wet the works!I am so proud of myself.

As you can see Kev taking a pic and me in the back ground and here's one of Charlie and I.

We both said that when we come back here we would stay in Manly beach, it's beautiful.

We found this little restaurant to eat in, and we all tried Kangaroo! Charlie wanted to finish off Kev's steak! lol.

We headed back to the mainland, and the sun was setting and it was just stunning.

The sun was setting and in this picture if you look at the top of the next picture you can see people (which look like ants) climbing the harbour bridge!

Tomorrow is an exciting day, we have been invited to the Prime Ministers residence for a charity function, and we are looking forward to going.

I have been bitten my insects of some sort, on my photo shoot in Bamboo and my arms look like it should be some sort of 'dot to dot' puzzle and I am nervous about tomorrow as they need to be gone so I can wear my dress... if not I am going to over heat with my cardigan that I will have to wear over the top to cover them!! lol

Right time for me to get showered and have a cozy night in.

Night all and have a lovely day.

I am so glad you are all on the adventure with me!

Lisa xx

Hey there Lisa!

I am so sorry to hear about your Nan. So glad to hear that she is not in any sort of pain. You, Nan, and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers. Just remember that your Granddad is right there with her.

Woohoo, what a fab adventure! I am so happy that you are all having a great trip. OMG, the beach looks amazing and that gorgeous bluish green water reminds me of the beaches in Hawaii. What great pictures of all you! I am proud of you for conquering a fear/ phobia that prevented you from having fun the other day. Good for you girl because I know it is not easy getting past our fears. Keep chilling out and try not to worry about anything. Let Australia take you away...

LOL Kev standing on the bus. LIke Kev, I am not a fan of rules but you still have to watch for the branches Kev...LOL Thank goodness he is okay and we can laugh about it.

Go have some fun making more memories! I am telling you if it weren't for Lucy barking, I would have been in your suitcase on my way to Australia LOL.

Lots of Hugs to you,
DreamSpirit ;)

I was driving through Manly today & my husband played a joke on me & said "look there its Lisa Williams", I nearly died I couldn't believe my luck but of course it wasn't you it was someone else he was just playing tricks on me... I was very dissapointed. I was at Colloray Beach today just a few mins away from Manly I cán't beleive reading your blog that you ACTUALLY were in Manly... Oh how I wish I was at Manly instead to have met you....My husbands knows how bad I would love to meet you he was just seeing what my reaction was.
So sorry to hear about your Nan & hope the rest of her days are enjoyed, bless her! Glad you love Australia & loved the beach today. Congratulations on going swimming today. I have read your book (which was FANTASTIC) so I understand how brave you were to overcome your fear.... CONGRATS LISA....

You have mentioned now a couple of times that you have been bittten by bugs of some sort. I hope this is not the case but it reminded me of a show I saw once, 20/20 or Dateline. People were finding bites all over and the culprits were bedbugs in the mattresses. This was happening even at the more expensive, plush hotels. No offense to the hotels in Australia, just thought it worth mentioning.
Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing your vacation with us

I hope your itching goes away before the show ! have you tried a Hydrocortisone cream of any kind ? It may soothe it temporarily while you are on stage .

Hi Lisa,

So glad you're having a great time; I smile as I read your blog and am really happy for you and yours that you are enjoying the place so much. Re: the bug bites; - try something called "stingoes" from the chemist or camping stores, that sort of thing - it's very good and does take the sting out of anything - the other thing you can do is find an Aloe Vera plant - I reckon you could even pick one up at the big department stores these days in the gardening section. Just skin a piece of it and use the jelly/flesh in the centre of the leaf (nice big and succulent, I'm sure you know that) on any kind of bite - honestly, natural Aloe Vera is probably the very very best thing you could ever use - my mum keeps one in the kitchen and uses it on little burns she might get cooking, bites, scratches, anything really.

So sorry about your Nan, but I do share your philosophy on the subject. Sad as it is/will be, it's part of the cycle we're made for. A very wise lady once gave me a great analogy on loss/pain. She asked me what would happen if I put my hand in a pan of boiling water. I told her the obvious answer, that it would burn and blister and be tremendously painful. Then she asked me if because I know this to be true, would it actually hurt less if I actually did it. I'd suffered a great loss at the time and had told her that I'd known it was coming, was prepared for it but couldn't understand why I couldn't logically handle my way through things. The moral of her story of course was that just because I knew what was coming or accepted it didn't make it hurt any the less when it came time, and I had to allow myself to mourne.

I hope with all your inner wisdom that you cut yourself some slack and don't think you should cope brilliantly just because of who you are your precious gift.

You are a delight and an inspiration to me and I love to log on daily to read your blog. Maybe on one of your next trips you'll come to North Queensland, you'd be most welcome.

God bless and have a beautiful holiday

Regards

Kathy Palmer

Lisa, I just thought of something, if you look closely at other peoples arms tomorrow, you'll probably notice bites on them too! So don't worry and be cool and comfortable. Love, Donna

Hello Lisa & fellow commentors!
It's amazing to see how many people on here are from Sydney's Northern Beaches - including me! Lara (Haidary01), can you please tell me where you located Lisa's book? I've looked everywhere and can't find a copy. Much appreciated :-) Thx.
Lisa, glad you enjoyed yourselves at Manly, it is a bit of a tourist mecca (as is Bondi) and therefore, rather crowded. You won't find any beaches when you go to Ayres Rock, but I can guarantee you'll be spending quite a bit of time in a resort pool !! (it's bloody HOT there!)
Wow! The PM's private residence - la dee da! lol At least Kev won't have any trouble remembering our PM's name! ;-)
About your bites (probably small ticks or sandfly bites) - what about buying a light weight wrap to wear with your dress? It wouldn't be as hot as a cardigan to wear, but it would cover your arms. (just a thought).
Have a great time and please keep those fabulous fun pics coming!

from Deb R :-)
P.S. Are you going to do a reading for the PM?

Hi my love, I am so glad that you were able to conquer your fear of the water. You look like you are really enjoying it! As well as Kev and Charlie. Good for you my love. Its great knowing that your Nan is going home. Thats the best place to be at a time like this! I am sorry though to hear that she is in denial. As long as you know what is ahead for her and are able to deal with it when that time comes. And as someone else said-your gradfather is there with her-waiting patiently I am sure.
Well, sweetheart do enjoy the rest of your vacation and especially your day at the Prime Ministers house. Love the pictures by the way. /thanks for sharing them and your time there with us. I feel as if I am there with you alll.

Love ya lots,
Mary

I am glad to hear you Nan is doing okay, denial yeahhhhhhh..... I sometimes think that if someone didnt know they had cancer, that they would live longer, cause it's that initial knowing that seems to make part of them give up right there.
Love Love Love the pics girl.......wow what a great time you are having , and I am sooo soo happy to see the smiles on your faces....Your such a beautiful family.

Hey Lisa, thank you for the great post and pictures! I could just hear the joy and excitement in your blog, and I'm glad you all are having a blast! I am so proud of you going into the ocean! Charlie looks as adorable as usual, and Kev is just way too handsome, and of course you are as beautiful as ever! The pictures are gorgeous! Wish i was there, but I am in the U.S. Kepp the pictures coming, we love to look at them, and you are making memories you will never forget. I love the ocean and beach, only I'm not a great swimmer, so I stay close to shore, maybe going in up to my chest. Love the sun and warm weather, it's my favorite! Enjoy!! Much love and hugs, Natalie/freespirit

Love the pictures and that you got your hair wet! This is silly but if you get a chance, look for the suburb of Sydney named Tempe. Vy told me she saw it in some travel literature.
