Universal language
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:56PM You know I have sat in a hospital for 3 days and each time a different
nurse or doctor comes in and they talk fast and witter on like I am
suppose to understand.
I explain that I don't speak much Spanish but somehow I understand
what they are saying ... It's strange. But somehow we manage to
communicate somehow. Through expressions and using our hands. There
are so many ways we communicate but the one thing we all understand,
(unless you are Russian, I found out today) we all understand a smile.
The warmth, the comfort, the happiness, the love that a smile
projects. It's funny everyone I have encountered during my time in
hospital by the side of my Nans bed has a smile on their face. There
is nothing like it.
When you feel ill sometimes just having someone smile at you brightens
your day. A hug to show that you care it can change someone's world in
an instant!
Just take a moment to think about this and I thank you from the bottom
of my heart for all the loving thoughts and healing being sent our
way. Nan is looking frail and weak tonight and Charlie is bouncing
back from an ear infection.
Big smiles to you all!!!
With love
Lisa xx

Continued best wishes for your Nan and of course for Charlie - sometimes it would be nice to be able to be two places at once... I hope Charlie gets well before the flight to Australia, ear trouble is no fun on a plane!
Dear Lisa,
Im sorry to hear your nan is not well and poor Charlie has
an ear infection!
I'll be sending my thoughts, love and smiles to you all and hope
all is well soon!!
lots of love Kim xoxox
ah lisa,,
i'm so sorry for what your nan, kevin and all of you are going through,,,thank goodness nan has the comfort of you being there with her, and the lines of communication are open through kindness....
big hugs and I am sending prayers to you all...>&<
ohh...I didnt get Charlie in there before I closed out..of course many prayers for little charlie also,,,>&<
Yup, smile is definitely a universal language! :o) Prayers to you and your family. Hope Nan is nice and comfortable which is the main thing and glad to hear that your Charlie is bouncing back feeling better. Kids has a tendency to bounce back faster when they are ill than adults. Rest assured, the ear infection definitely will go away w/ the right stuff and he will be back good as New :o) I know all too well having tons of Ear infections all the time when I was his age. Now I don't ever get them much except when I get really sick and it goes right to my ears which is very rare. Anyhow, enjoy the time you have w/ your family in Spain and Charlie is in good hands w/ your family in US. Thanks for keeping us updated.
Lisa: Warm and loving thoughts to you and Nan and all your family as you traverse through this difficult time together. I know your faith and understanding of all things emotional and paraphysical will be a great comfort, but no matter the depth of understanding watching those we love wither and fade with age or illness is heart wrenching. I hope this time together provides both of you with lots of laughter and smiles and wonderful memories. HUGS -- Debbi
Smiling is a wonderful thing!!! And I knew about Russia too!!! I'm glad that Charlie is doing better!!! Much Love to you and your family!!! <3 <3 <3
I am sure that having you there is making all the difference for your Nana.
One of your smiles that light up a room is worth a lot. Was speaking with other Aussie girls in the chat room last night and we can't wait for one of your HUGE hugs.
Hope Charlie's ear is getting better. You might have to get some of those earplane things for him in the plane. So looking forward to seeing you.
Thinking of you and your nan. X0
After 30-odd years in the health care field, I can fully support this message. Most patients will react positively to gentilityfrom a caretaker. They really appreciate warm hands, too! Unfortunately, health care in the US became more business-like as time went on, becoming almost as sterile as they tried to keep the physical environment. Political correctness took over, so staff was not allowed to be 'familiar' with patients. More formal, cold, clinical. Advances in medicine are amazing, but so is the disappearance of personal touch, appropriate to the setting. The need for speed replaced the ability to get to 'know' a patient as something other ' the gallbladder in 214.' Sooo glad Nan is in a kind place! Healing on the way! XO A&L
So true LIsa...a smile can change everything...and it is a universal language...glad Charlie is feeling better and love to your Nan....Take care...xoxo

Hey Lovely Lisa,
;-) :-) ;-) Here are 3 BIG SMILES FOR YOU. Bless you. You are so good with and to Nan. I'm sorry she is looking weak. I'll have to send her some healing light using the MOON tonight.
Big hug please, to Sir Charlie and I hope his ear infection is totally gone now. I'm so glad you drove! No cliffs Lisa. With lots of love and TRUE understanding of what is going on over there. Thank you so very much for keeping in touch. Hugs,
Lisa,
I am glad to hear Charlie is on the mend. I am glad that they are a caring and warm bunch of staff members there at the hospital. Thats what the situation needs.
I always found it so hard to tell my feelings and last thoughts to someone...even when they were leaving this world, and I knew they were and that would be the last I saw of them.....and I never understood why it was so hard for me to do ! Most people given the opportunity would and do say what they want and feel and those that didnt get the chance, want that last chance to do so.... But I have had that chance and yet never did. Yet its not that I didnt want to when I had the chance....I just couldnt bring myself to say it.... Even though I know you will, just throwing it out there anyway, tell your Nan what you feel and think etc.... so you dont walk away with any emptiness. Though I am sure she knows how you feel.
Hugs girl, and I am so glad that you have that time with her.

Dear Lisa, How nice it is to read your blog about smiling and even HUGS! Can you imagine the people that go along in life without a HUG? Sometimes, in the later years of life, just knowing a person cares, a soft caress, a light smile, an ear to listen, and someone to be interested in what you have to say. How wonderful! My daughter is in college for occupational therapy... instead of going to wild parties, she sets up knitting classes with her adopted grandmother! Remember to care today!
With Love and Light,
Cher

Its not fun having an ear infection! lol! Hopefully by the time he flies out to Australia he will be all better! While you are in Spain enjoy yourself with your family. That sure was a close call with your father driving to the hospital ! My God, Lisa, you werer almost over the edge!!! Thank goodness you were able to take over! What a fright that must have been for the both of you!! The last thing we need is to lose you my love. Do give my love to your mum and dad and ,of course, to Nan. My love always to you.

Dear Lisa, I am deeply saddened to read that Nan isn't doing so good, looking frail and weak and I know how very hard this must be for you to see her this way. I can't say enuff how glad I am that you are there with her and without a doubt, her heart is much happier having you there. I am sure you are her ray of sunshine. You will never regret having gone to Spain to be wih her. As always, tender hugs to Nan and one for you too, Lisa. You must be emotionally exhausted ((((((((((Lisa))))))))))
Awwwwwwww poor wee Charlie, those dang ear infections can really take a toll on a person. I am sure he will be good as new very soon tho as there is such a abundance of LOVE and HEALING being sent his way.

Hi Lisa,
I'm sending a big beaming smile from me to you! I am so glad they are being so kind at the hospital; you certainly didn't need to contend with poor bedside manners! I wish you never had to have a sad, or bad time ever in your life! You spread so much love; you should only have love and good in return. Know you hold a warm spot in so many hearts!
Take care!
Hugs and lots of Love,
Cheryl
Lisa, i think you're nan would be feeling much more at peace knowing you're there? Despite the circumstances, just feeling your loved oned presence beside us eases the pain...
And yes, a smile is means many things, and when you're feeling unwell, it's very comforting to see people smile at you..It's very relaxing, especially when your feeling vulnerable..
Big kisses for Charlie..Poor little mite..Ear aches are no fun...But it's good to know he's getting better...
